96 Inch Diameter Horizontal Core Drill
Project: Newtown Creek Water Pollution Control Plant, Brooklyn, NY
Client: SPMP, JV
Zieman Engineering designed this custom core drill to drill a 96 inch diameter hole through a 3 foot thick concrete slab at the
bottom of a concrete shaft that was filled with 25 feet of water. The work was required to divert sewage flow from an
existing siphon to the new treatment plant. The core drilling was done in three stages - 14 inch diameter, then 60 inch diameter,
then 96 inch diameter. For the 60 inch and 96 inch donut shaped cores, a core retrieval system was designed to capture the core as it
broke free.
